Our roots
Founded in 1987 as a spin-off from UCLouvain, IRIS began with the development of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. Over the years, we have expanded our offerings to include:
- OEM Software: Serving industry leaders like HP, Adobe, and Kodak.
- B2C Products: Including card readers, desktop scanning hardware, and document conversion software.
- B2B Solutions: Such as IRISPowerscan and IRISXtract for advanced document processing and classification.
Our expertise quickly gained recognition, leading organizations across Europe to seek our assistance with their information management projects. Today, IRIS delivers comprehensive solutions, integrating our technology with third-party systems to provide end-to-end services from document processing to process automation.
Integration with Canon
Following our acquisition by Canon in 2016, IRIS began integrating into their organizational structure. Today, our R&D activities, under the legal entity I.R.I.S. SA, report directly to Canon EMEA. Meanwhile, our information management solutions entities, I.R.I.S. Nederland BV and I.R.I.S. Solutions and Experts SA, have joined Canon Benelux.
This integration allows us to deliver localized solutions to organizations in our region, backed by the extensive support and capabilities of the larger Canon Benelux organization.

These centers leverage Canon’s extensive resources and expertise to deliver tailored digital solutions and value-added services.
